Zone 8 is looking for cyclists for the 2004 BC Summer Games in Abbotsford. If you are between 15-16 years of age as of Dec. 31, 2004, you are eligible to ride the two qualifying races happening this Sunday.
The BC Games are happening July 15 - 18, 2004. It is a huge, multi-sport event involving athletes from all over the province, of numerous sports. It is a superb event for both the novices and the experienced cyclists.
The two qualifying events for the Zone 8 athletes are happening May 30, Sunday, in Fort St. John, BC. The 1-hour mountain bike race is taking place at 10:00 am at Beatton Park, near Charlie Lake. The road qualifier is a 40 km road event from the 'Old Montney Store' at 2:00 pm. An entry fee of $25 will be charged to each rider to cover the Blizzard Bike Club's insurance for this selection day.
The team will be selected based on the total points accumulated by the riders for the two events. Points format is 1st place 10 points, 2nd place 9 points and -8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 for the remaining places. Six riders will be selected, 3 male and 3 female. The remainders will be on the 'Alternate' list.
Major Centers in Zone 8 include Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, Fort Nelson, Fort St. John, Hudson's Hope, Prince George, Quesnel and Williams Lake.
