Nenan Dane zaa Deh Zona Family Services (Nenan) is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual to join our team as a FAMILY NAVIGATOR. This position supports families involved in the child welfare system, or ideally, assists families in an early intervention and prevention support services capacity.

The Family Navigator position is located in Fort St John. The position is under the direct supervision of the Executive Director. Travel to Fort Nelson as required. Evening and weekend work as required.

• Connects and collaborates with appropriate referral sources
• Carries out intake and assessment of clients
• Develops, from a client-centered approach, and carries out appropriate wellness/family service plans
• Works collaboratively with professionals and identified support systems involved with clients
• Maintains accurate case files and case management plans
• Coordinates and facilitates health and wellness community workshops

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and oral
• A strong understanding of the Child, Family & Community Services Act, alternative dispute resolution process, court process and associated policies is required
• Awareness of First Nations culture and issues affecting First Nations families and communities
• Awareness of the dynamics of active and ongoing addiction, sexual abuse, family violence (incl. child abuse & neglect), grief, suicide, depression, healing and recovery
• Familiar with program planning, development and evaluation
• Awareness in the value of harm reduction practices
• Knowledge of ethics and boundaries
• Demonstrated skills in report writing and documentation
• Ability to work independently and be part of an integrated community team
• Demonstrated success in interventions, crises and outcomes
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office

• Bachelor Degree in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, and/or equivalent combination of training, education and experience
• Experience working with Aboriginal communities and/or non-profit organizations
• Demonstrated understanding of Treaty 8 First Nations, Aboriginal and Metis peoples of northeastern BC
• A valid BC class 5 driver's license and criminal record check are mandatory
