Come prepared to enjoy the garden, cluck with the chickens, gobble with the turkeys, kick back with a few cattle, explore and forage the boreal forests, learn about our local soils, and hobnob with the piglets while gaining valuable experience working on a family-run regenerative agriculture farm. Endless coffee, baking, and periodic hot lunches are just icing on the cake!
We are looking for a part time (20-25 hours per week) worker from mid-May to mid-August/September, 2020. Ideal applicants would be a student enrolled in a post-secondary institution within the earth sciences, trades, environment / natural resource sector, or ecology. Experience in agriculture is not a prerequisite, but an educational background in trades, ecology, or agriculture would be an asset.
We are looking for someone who has a good work ethic, isn’t afraid of hard physical work, someone who can work in a team as well as independently and can be self-motivated when it comes to completing tasks. Applicants must have a valid BC Driver’s License and be prepared for physical work outdoors in all weather. Some weekend work may be necessary. Wage is $15/hr.
Duties will include:
- Feed and tend to cattle, pigs, and poultry
- Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment
- Build and maintain farm structures and fencing
- Collect soil and water samples
- Complete vegetation assessments
- Complete minor ecological surveys
- Assist in slaughter and packaging of meat
- Support farmer’s markets and on-farm events
