Fort St. John Mens Basketball Spring 2016 League - W5 and W6 Recaps
 Posted on: Mar 17/2016 @ 3:59 pm

Week 5 Recap:

The first game of the night saw Team White looking to extend their winning streak against a tough Team Black squad looking to rebound from their first loss of the season. Both teams came out firing with balanced scoring and solid passing, with only a few points separating them at the half. But the second half was taken over by Alex Neily who punched in 17 of his 22 points to help Team Black pull away. White was lead by Austin Grant’s 12 points, while three of his teammates chipped in with 10 points apiece. Final score was 76-58.

The second game pitted Team Red against Team Blue in one of the best games of the year. Jake Hrycha poured in 14 points in the first half to help his squad to a 5-point lead at the half, but Team Red found rhythm in the second half as Darell Castro ( 13 points) and Ahmed Isse (16 points) dominated the scoresheet. When the final whistle went, Team Red had secured a 66-56 victory.

Week 6 Recap:The final week of regulation was more of a tuneup for the playoffs as the standings were set and postseason matchups weren’t going to change.

Game 1 saw league-leading Team Black take on Team Red, who once again were playing with a shortened bench. Dan Penner was a beast for Team Black in the first half scoring 20 points (including four 3s), but Team Red countered with Ahmed Isses’s 14 first-half points and they had a meagre 3-point lead at the break. The shortened bench caught up to Team Red in the second half as they found themselves in foul trouble and tired, and once again Alex Neily came alive with 14 of his 20 points to lead his team to a 68-60 victory.

Game 2 was the story of the year for Team White who played with five players against a near full Team Blue squad… and it showed. Tired and undermanned, Team White tried to establish an inside game by pounding the ball into Joshua Slykhuis who ultimately scored 16 of his team’s 36 total game points. While Team Blue continued to run the floor effectively, share the ball very well and essentially run away with a 56-36 win.
