Job Summary / Responsibilities & Abilities:
• Under the direction of Early Learning Program Supervisor, the Early Childhood Educator will work as a CDCELP team member with other staff to provide quality inclusive childcare, excellent service to families and building meaningful relationships as per our current program philosophy.
• Provide leadership and mentorship within the Early Learning Program Team in the Preschool /Playcare
classroom.
• Establish and maintain positive daily communication and interaction with children, families, other staff and community members.
• Ensure all safety and supervision standards are implemented and maintained according to licensing and CDC requirements. Enthusiastic and positive nature that embraces respect, honesty, caring, and responsibility.

Qualification:
• Minimum of a BC Early Childhood Educator Certificate (Must provide a copy of ECE Certificate)
• Child Care First Aid certification (proof of certification required)
• Knowledge of the British Columbia Early Learning Framework

Classification/ECE Salary: Grid 3 $ 30.40 to $37.87
Hours of Work: Monday-Friday 7.5 hours a day
(includes .25 paid break and 1-hour unpaid lunch)

JOB TITLE: Early Childhood Educator 1

JOB SUMMARY: Reporting to the supervisor, the employee will provide educational direction and intervention for the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development of preschool age children. The Early Childhood Educator will also carry out a variety of related administrative and documentative functions that relate to maintaining the child’s chart.

SUPERVISOR: Early Childhood Coordinator

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
• Ability to organize work
• Ability to work within a team environment

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Successful completion of a recognized Early Childhood Education Certificate Program
• Licensed as an Early Childhood Educator by the appropriate licensing body in the province of British Columbia
• Provide a Criminal Record Review acceptable to the Centre
• Experience preferred with knowledge of child development
• A general knowledge of disciplines involved in the field of child health care as well as patient care management including control of confidential information
• Familiar with non-oral communication methods
• First Aid and CPR certification
• Be of sound fitness & provide a doctor’s letter


FUNCTIONS:

1. Assist preschool children of all abilities with their physical, intellectual, social and emotional development primarily in group settings by the following:
a. Assess children’s development and implement programs according to their needs
b. Prepare lesson plans and materials
c. Prepare progress reports, notes and statistics
d. Cooking, cleaning, shopping and laundry as required
e. Plan and implement field trips
f. Provide a safe stimulating environment by adhering to the Provincial Child Care Facility Licensing Board’s Guidelines and Centre policies
g. Responsible for the overall management, appearance, and decor of the classroom

2. Assists in developing and incorporating specialized programming related to special needs children.

3. Develops Individual Education Plans (IEP) promoting independence and development specific to each child in preparation for school entry.

4. Assists parents in their understanding of child development and provides consultation specific to their own children.

5. Maintains professional development through continued education.

6. Fully participates as part of the multidisciplinary team.

7. Maintains all program principles as set out by the Child Development Centre Society of Fort St. John and District.

8. Performs other related duties as assigned.
